...But you can call me Dick. (an introduction)

My name is Matt, but you can call me Dick, Dick Crane  and I come from East York.

Home of the infamous EY Skate team Land of catholic churches, parking lots, and convenience  stores. Home to many, artists, revolutionaries,  immigrants and jocks, easter than downtown Toronto but not quite Scarborough.
Birthplace of Will Arnette, John Candy and Edward Boyd (famous bank robber)

I'm twenty years old and attended Centennial College for one year for advanced screenwriting in Television and film.
I am a cook by hand and for wage, In my spare time I work to fix and build Bicycles with BikeSauce; a DIY Co-operative and social hub for the cyclist community.
and oh yea, I bomb T.O. every day on my bike.

The long and short of it:
I've been riding this city for the last six years and love to go FAST.

Usually my ride looks like this>>>

Billie Holiday:
Miele Cicli 58cm frame
Shimano 105 brakes
Mavic 4 Steel rims laced too Shimano RX100
an older San Marco SKN model
Aluminum Track Drops
All city cages leather straps

Sometimes I ride fixed like st00pid fast

This is me, but it is not my bike.

This is Jay's bike, but for the nerds, it is a: 56cm Sword with DEEEP (b43) purple rims laced to formula hubs.

The thing is lighter than a dieting prom queen in
 Beverly Hills.

Me and Jay met riding Alleycats together, here is a picture:

In the last year I have lived in a saiboat docked in Toronto Island Marina and in a shared house at Spadina and Dupont. with some of the best people I've met.
At this corner I lived with some great bands up and coming on Toronto's music scene And met artists of all kind who help make this city what it currently is.

I became increasingly more involved in the goings on at the one of a kind co-operative bikesauce  Where I met many shining personalities and veterans of cycling as well as mechanics.

I gained knowledge and experience in the mechanics of bikes and life (wow cheesy metaphor) and can safely say it inspired me.

In August we held this event:

West To East Alleycat! from Alex BG on Vimeo.

Conclusion:
The do it yourelf culture has changed from intriguiing me to enveoping my mind as the only way of living that makes sense.

During my time with Sauce' I was lucky enough to attend the first Canadian location of BikeBike! , an anual conference of DIY shops open to international guests held in Toronto. And shortly after I got to tag along to represent bikesauce in Montreal at Velo Velo.

Here I met people (cyclists, mechanics, enthusiast) from all over Canada and the USA who help to maintain community through collective cycle shops.

The blue line marks my route (if you can see it)
Based on an urgent sense of wanderlust, a deep love and connection to the bicycle and a desire to escape what will be my 21st Toronto winter, I am going to ride my bike to California and visit as many DIY cycle repair shops as I can along the way.

I got friends to meet in Nawlins so I will be heading south first because... FUCK WINTER!

I built up an old Miele road bike donated to me by a West Coast friend, the frame is too small but I've tuned it pretty swell.

Ive got: two 56 L paniers from MEC, a selection of road maps, Compass, and $800.00 American.
Other than that I am, how you say, "Winging it"
